The Dominican Laity are Catholics who have received a special invitation from God to live more attentively the life of faith and to express their grateful love to God in service and compassion towards others. We are proud of our long tradition of Christian commitment; our origins go back to the founding of the Order of Preachers by St Dominic in 1216 A.D.
If you find God calling you to a deeper prayer and more generous Christian life, please come to one of our meetings. We are eager to welcome you into the Dominican family – a family that includes many great figures known in the church, such as St Thomas Aquinas, St Albert the Great, St Martin de Porres (the patron of the southern Dominican Province), St Catherine of Siena, St Rose of Lima, and the 20th century Lay Dominican Pier Giorgio Frassati.
Current President: Mr. John F. Waukechon, OP (email contact)
Our Mission: The St. Martin de Porres Chapter of Dominican Laity provides a structure for living out the Christian vocation by focusing on the pillars of Dominican life: prayer, study, community, and preaching. We gather in community at monthly Chapter meetings and in additional celebrations and social activities. We pray in various ways, including the rosary, the Divine office, and attending daily Mass whenever possible. We study Dominican saints and preachers by reading books and study materials. We preach the gospel by word and through our way of life. Our goal is to strengthen the Dominican spirituality of our professed members and to provide a place for those who are not professed to enter the formation process and discern if they are called to live the life of a Lay Dominican.
